Manifesto for a Wellbeing Economy
Designed by Our Members, Rooted in Wellbeing
Our 2026 Manifesto for a Wellbeing Economy sets out a bold, member-led plan to redesign Scotland’s economy for people and planet ahead of the Scottish Parliament election.

Across Scotland, people are struggling with the cost of living, under-funded public services and a worsening climate and nature crisis. The current economic model is not delivering secure, sustainable lives and trust in politics is low.
Co-designed with our members, including charities, community organisations, economists, businesses and trade unions, this manifesto outlines practical and transformative policies that the Scottish Parliament can deliver in the next term.

We propose an economy that prioritises wellbeing, fairness and sustainability, built around five core principles:

Dignity: Deliver a Minimum Income Guarantee for Scotland, ensuring good jobs, strong public services and social security that protects everyone from poverty.

Nature: Enshrine the human right to a healthy environment in Scots law and accelerate climate and nature action.
Fairness: Scale up community wealth building, co-operatives and democratic business models so wealth stays local and inequality is reduced.
Purpose: Create a new economic strategy for Scotland, guided by a citizen’s assembly and focused on collective wellbeing rather than GDP growth.
Participation: Invest in community-led spaces and local democracy, giving people real power over the decisions that shape their lives.
Together, these proposals show how Scotland can build a Wellbeing Economy that delivers good lives for all, now and for future generations.
